SmartMussel

Image
The objective of “SmartMussel” project is to develop a model of automated, remote-controlled management systems for mussel farms, which will use probes of temperature, dissolved oxygen and conductivity associated with prediction software to demonstrate the potential need for mussel movement between marine areas.
An innovative automated system will be developed, installed and tested; it will also be evaluated in terms of functionality and impact on product quality and on the development of the mussel production sector in general. Among the expected results are the improvement of economic performance, the reduction of risk and uncertainty, the overall improvement of farm management, the increase of labor efficiency and the protection of farms from external factors.

The automated management system, after being installed and tested in the Porto Lagos region, will then constitute a commercial package addressed to individual producers or groups of mussel farmers (e.g. Makrygialos Pieria, Chalastra Thessaloniki, etc.). Additionally, the proposed system could also be used by fisheries and veterinary services to efficiently perform controls based on realtime abiotic parameter measurements.

The project is co-financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program for Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the call Special Actions AQUACULTURE – INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS – OPEN INNOVATION IN CULTURE (project code: T6YBΠ-00388; Project acronym: SmartMussel).
